Rutilated quartz: Macroscopic quartz crystals commonly occur as horizontally-striated hexagonal prisms terminated by a combination of positive and negative rhombohedrons forming six-sided pyramids. Prism faces and/or rhombohedral terminations may be lacking, poorly-developed, or predominant resulting in diverse crystal habits. Trigonal tapezohedral faces can occur in the upper right or left of alternating prism faces identifying right- or left-handed crystals, respectively. Rutile crystals within the quartz generally enter one end or side of the quartz and exit the opposite side, completely traversing the entire quartz crystal. These rutile crystals usually occur with small diameters between 0.1mm and 1.0mm.
I have enjoyed making juzu for over a decade. Over the years I have improved the way they are strung and found materials that will hold up for years if they are treated well and never rubbed. I include instructions for care of your juzu when I email you they are on their way to you. I have had a set for ten years that shows no sign of wear because I am careful with them. I use them almost daily and take them to meetings, and could still sell them as brand new.
